Complimentary Dinner. — The friends of Mr. William Withers will give him a farewell dinner, this evening at Messrs. Martin and Downes 1 , Pier Hotel. Mr. Withers has long held a responsible position in the Bank of New South Wales in this City, and is well and favorably known to a large circle of friends who cannot let him depart without bearing testimony to the estimation in which he is held, Mr. Withers proceeds by the first opportunity for Hokitika to join the branch of the Bank of New South Wales established on the West Coast. — Independent, Nor. 21. [Mr. Withers is, we believe, eldest son of our esteemed fellow townsman, Capt. Withers.] Discovery of Mr. Broughton's Body.-— On the 15th inst. a party of soldiers found the body of our unfortunate townsman cast up on the' beach, about a mile and a half from the mouth of the Patea. It was so much decomposed that there would have been some difficulty in identifying it but for a peculiarity in one of the front teeth and a ring on one of the fingers. There were three tomahawk cuts on the back of the head. The body was interred near where it was found. It is supposed that Mr. Broughton must have been taken to the Whakapaiho pa which overhangs the river, before being murdered, and that then his body has been thrown into the river. — Wanganui Chronicle, Nov. 18. . - • The Auckland Members, we perceive, are to have a grand banquet given them by the inhabitants.
