Kinross, Esq. fTIHE object of the proposed Company is to proJ- cure two screw steamers of a capacity and draught j of water suited for the requirements of the Port of Napier. The great success which has attended the working of steamers in the coasting trade of New Zealand has demonstrated the fact that such a trade can be profitably followed, and it is believed that the Province can now maintain two steamers in constant employment. The want of a suitable local steamer lias been severely felt for the past eighteen months— flock i waers and others having been thereby shut out from the high markets existing both in. Otago and Auckland. The uncertainty of the voyage precludes shipping by sailing vessels, while the accommodation afforded by the mail steamer, irrespective of the danger and delay of loading in the roadstead, is quite inadequate. The steamers which this Company propose to purchase are of the dimensions recommended by practical men of experience and standing, after a careiul inspection of the Port of Napier, and will each be about 140 tons register or 250 tons builders' measurement ; length about 120 to 125 feet overall ; breadth of beam, 20 feet ; depth, 9 feet; draught when loaded, about 7& feet. Each steamer to have 2 engines of 25 nominal horse power. To have a half-poop deck for passengers, and cabins fitted with 16 gentlemen's and 6 ladies' berths, besides steerage accommodation. Such steamers will provide \ tor the developement of the goods and passenger trartic ■which is called for by the growing importance of the Port of Napier, As the conveyance of live stock may be expected to form a profitable source of revenue, the i steamers will be built with a view to this, and will each carry from 500 to 600 wethers. This Company may with confidence calculate on receiving the liberal subsidy for steam purposes voted by the Provincial Council of Hawke's Bay. ! It is proposed that this Company shall have a capital of £15,000 in 750 shares of £2o each, with power to issue new Shares if necessary. The qualification for voting at the election of the first Board of Directors shall be the payment of the deposit of 10s and the first call of £Z per share. Shareholders Bhall be allowed to vote by proxy. Any qualified Shareholder holding 10 Shares in his own right shall be eligible for election to the Board of Directors.
