**_-■ *n_^ «--•-- Hawke's Bay Land Regulations.— On the i-h iust., Mr. Ormond obtained leave to bring in a bill to make certain alterations and further provisions in behalf of the Waste Land Regulations in force in the province of Hawke's Bay. The bill having been brought in. was re;:d a first time, ordered to be printed, and to be read a second time on Wednesday the llth. Target Shooting.— The Waipukurau company have had three days ball practice, during which the target has been well riddled. Corporals Johnston and Glass. Lance Corporal Peebles, Privates Evans, Ormsby, Offer, and Gaisford, were among those who scored well. Major Whitmore, as vve learn from a statement by authority, published in the Tivies, has not resigned his office as Civil Commissioner. Our information was, we thought, derived from the Major himself ; but we have since been informed that although he did resign the office hia resignation was not accepted. The Inland Mail came in last evoning. The news of Meremere having been evacuated has created an uneasy feeling in the county, and it is the general wish that a blockhouse should be added to the present stockade at Waipawa.
