♦»* The editor is desirous of affording every reasonable facility for the discussion of public subjects, and the criticism of the acts of public men ; but it must be understood that he is in no way responsible for the opinions expressed by correspondents. — ♦— To the Editor of the Hawhe's Bay Eerald. Sir, — Mr. Bousfield, in his address to the electors of the Country Districts, states that he has no intention of accepting any Government employment, and, in answer to Mr. John Begg's letter, he tells us nothing more, although particularly questioned on the point. We have been unfortunately so taught in this Province not to see in his statement sufficient space, mental reservation, as it is called, to permit Mr. B. taking office, as his intention would come after his public assurance. The electors want a straightforward answer to the question, — Will Mr. Bousfield promise not to accept of any office 1 Suppose, Sir, he took an appointment while the Council was sitting, what would become of the interests of his constituents'? A plain answer is required to this question, failing which Mr. B. will find himself minus a good many votes. Yours, &c, A Country Elector. Puketapu. ■
