Our harbour has once more assumed a lively appearance, several vessels haviug arrived from Auckland, and the Sea Serpent and Esther from Wellington. Both of the latter bring goods transhipped ex Princess and Asterope. The Victoria has brought a timely supply of timber for some of the carpenters.

The event of this week has been a large sale, by Mr. Janisch, extending over four days, at the stores of the late firm of Messrs. Stuart, Kinross, & Co.— the most extensive one Napier has ever witnessed, and indeed large enough to be compared with an auction sale in any town in the colony. The sale being a bond fide one, the bidding was kept up throughout with great spirit, the attendance from town and country being large. On the whole the prices realised must be satisfactory to the sellers, for full market rates were obtained in many instances, while the loss on old stock may be calculated at a very fair medium rate. The whole of the stock has been disposed of, and we think it cannot fall very short of from £12,000 to £14,000, a sum about ten times as large as that realised at any previous sale of merchandise w Napier.
