To the Editor of the Howie's Bay Herald. Sib,— May I ask for information if the Land Pur-' chase Department is still in existence in this Province, or whether it was abolished at the last Bitting of the General Assembly ; and if Mr. G. S. Cooper v now drawing £300 per annum as Commissioner and Mr. M. Fitzgerald £460 as Surveyor? If these are -the amounts— and there is no denying to any reasonable person that the incessant fatigues and laborious anxiety of mind attendant on the duties of these offices fully deserve the above paltry amounts in this wealthy Province-would it not be only fair, at the same time, to give them the same amount,, £460 each j in fact, be liberal—call it £500. But jealousy is a weakness even in your esteemed friend STEAM DREDGE.
