H.M.S. Mibattda arrived unexpectedly in Ahuriri roadstead on Monday last at noon, having left the capital on the afternoon or Friday, and having on board General Cameron and staff, on a tour of inspection. Her arrival, and the important news of which she was the bearer, were notified in a Herald Extraordinary published in little more than an hour afterwards, and. forwarded by the inland mail. The Miranda sailed for "Wellington on Tuesday morning. The Storm Bird arrived on "Wednesday afternoon after a rather lengthy passage of 40 hours — a head wind having been experienced the whole distance. She brings intelligence of the loss of the Colman Co.'s s.s. Victory at Otago, particulars of which will be found below. This accident, coupled with the fact of the Prince Alfred having gone to Sydney for repairs, will prevent the Lord Worsley from returning to this port and Auckland, and will, we fear, affect for a time the plan of steam communication which was matured in the committee rooms of the House of Representatives. The Zephyr left Auckland late on Tuesday the 9th inst., and arrived here on the night of Sunday Last— thus making the passage in five days. A large ship was seen from the Zephyr off the East Cape, working into the Bay of Plenty. The new vessel of which Capt. Clarke (formerly of the Zephyr) was to take charge, had been launched, and was nearly ready for sea.
