Local Intelligence.

Land Sale. — On Tuesday last, in accordance with proclamation to that effect, a sale of town and sxiiburban land at Havelock, took place at the land office. The town lots were all sold ; the aggregate upset price was £137, and the amount realized £256 ss. Of the suburban sections all were sold but" three," realizing £680 155., or £125 15s. over the upset price. Of the town lots all •but 4, and several of the suburbans, were bought by Colonel Russell, upon a remission ticket ; his purchases amounting to £138 15s. in the town, and £416 ss. in the suburbs — being £555 out of £937, the total of the sale. A sale of ss. land followed. All the lots put up were sold to the applicants at the upset price — the amount realised, exclusive of the deposits, being £1209 3s. Full particulars of these sales will be published in the 'Provincial Government Gazette,' some time or other.

Cricket. — Amongst the passengers by the tc White Swan " on Monday last were the " Auckland eleven," en route to Wellington, to engage ai equal number of the Wellington cricketers. The match is one that has excited much interest ; tind no doubt, whichever city may prove the gainer, we shall hear, on the return of the steamer, of a well fought field. Mixitaby Detachment at Napieb. — It -will he seen from a letter to the Superintendent, published elsewhere under the head of '• Council Papers," that the ramour which so much prevailed a few weeks ago to the effect that the strength of the detachment here was to be reduced to 50 men has had no foundation in fact.
