Itf our last we indicated fthe probability of the Provincial Council being convened for an. earlier date than that originally intended, and enumerated the reasons which influenced the Government in taking this step. These were a. strong desire to take advantage of fine weather and a full treasury to push forward urgent public works, and, at the same time, a wish to make no use of the public money without the sanction of the people's representatives, as a body, first had and obtained. The Council has since been convened for Tuesday, the 22nd inst., a " Gazette," containing a proclamation to that effect, having been issued yesterday. Although the necessary appropriation for special public works is the more immediate occasion of this early session, we apprehend that the whole of the estimates for 1860 will be submitted to the Council. At this point, however, business will probably terminate, the time of country members being, at this season of the year, ' peculiarly valuable. The discussion of land regulations, and of many other subjects of importance, will, no doubt, be deferred till February, when a long and highly interesting session may be looked forward to.
