Utflv Peactioe. — The detachment at Fapier has lately been practising with the Enfield rifle at ranges varying from 100 to 200 yards. The practice, considering that the rifle is a comparatively novel weapon to the men, was excellent. The power of this weapon appears to be very great, for though the cartridge is only half the size of that used with the old musket, yet at the latter distance it crashed through the solid parts of the framework of the target as if it were mere paper, and plunged into the sea at some considerable distance beyond it. We have been informed that these rifles are all made by maehinery s and consequently are so exactly alike, that if at any tiruothe various component parts of one get damaged no fitting is necessary in the replacing of them by others.
