Derby.—Kent in the first innings made 560 (Ashdown hot out 305); Derby, first innings 380, and followed on to make 121 for two. Kent won on the first innings. Worcester v. Yorkshire.—Worcester a in the first innings made 154 (Bowes three for 40), second innings 144 (Verity five for 48); Yorkshire, first innings 358 (Sutcliffe 138). Yorkshire won by an innings and 60 runs. Gloucester v. Glamorgan.—-Glouces-ter in the first innings made 440 for nine wickets declared (Barnett 128, Sinfield not out 209); Glamorgan, first innings 238 (Dyson 96; Sinfield four for 47), and followed on to make 139 (Sinfield five for 56, Goddard five for 61). Gloucester won by an innings and 63 runs.

Notts.—Warwick in the first innings made 113 (Woodhead six for 28, Voce four for 24), and in second innings 290 for three (Kilner 124, Wyatt not out 88) ; Notts, first innings 324 (Staples not out 109). Notts won on the first innings. Sussex v. Surrey.—Sussex in the first innings made 489 (John Langridg© 111, Melville 110 James Langridge 65, Harry Parks not out 100); Surrey, first innings 315 for nine (Garland Wells 83). The match was drawn. Lancashire v. I\ orthants. —Lancashire in the first innings made 521 for five, declared (Payhter not- out 208); Northants, first innings ITS (Hopwood seven for 66) and followed on to lose no wickets for 110. Lancashire won on the first innings. Hampshire v. Essex.— Hampshire in the first innings made 223 (Nichols five for 43), and in the second innings five for 299 (Arnold 131) ; Essex, first innings 247 (Kennedy six for 94). Essex won on the first innings. Ashdown’s 305 is the season’s highest score. Ashdown’s 332 was also the highest -in 1934; his has been the only triple century in either season.

King Sends Congratulations to South African Cricketers Received 12.30 p.m. to-day. LONDON, Aug. 23. The cricket match between the South Africans and Sir Julian Calm’s eleven was abandoned owing to rain. The King sent a message to-tlie South Africans, congratulating them on their great victory m winning the rubber after such close, well-fought matches.
