The general inference is that an intense anti-cyclone still extends from the west on to New Zealand, but since last night a sharp depression has been passing to the south. The forecast is for strong westerly winds to gales, backing to south-westerly, but later moderating. The weather will b'e changeable and squally, with scattered showers. Seas are rough to high.
