Opunake Lodge Ball
Manchester Unity Anniversary About 200 people were present at the Opunake Town Hall on Wednesday night for the second annual ball p£ the Loyal Opunake Lodge, Manches-’ ter Unity of Oddfellows. Visitors were present from Stratford. New Plymouth, Manaia, Rahotu, Kaponga and Okato Lodges, as well as the Opunake Hibernian and Star of Opunake (1.0.0. F.) Lodges. Amongst the visiting officials were the District Grand Master, Bro. D. G. Sherson, of Stratford, and the Deputy-Grand Master, Bro. Renton (Rahotu). The hall was artistically decorated with red streamers and rows of coloured lights, whilst above the stage the letters M.U.1.0.0.F. were worked in red -on a white background. Dancing was enjoyed to music supplied by Hooker’s Merrymakers Orchestra, whilst extras were played by’ Sister C. Malcolm and Mr Stewart Gordon. The duties of masters of ceremonies were carried out by Brothers A. J. Brennan and J. Purvis. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss M. Pennington and Mr I. Gilshnan and a novelty chain waltz by Mrs A. Ford and Mr G. Webb. A competition was won by Miss L. Purvis. •Supper was served by members’ wives, the social committee comprising Mesdames Brennan and J. Pope and Bros. Rilrihana, C. Fawcett, and C. Cameron and A- Ford (as joint sea retaries).
