TRACK AND STABLE CHAT

(By “Childers”)

RACING FIXTURES

Won Double Last Year.

Aug. 24—Pakuranga H.C. Aug. 29—Egmont-Wanganui H.C. (at New Plymouth). i Aug. 31—Taranaki H.C. Sept. 7—Otago H.C. Sept. 7—Marton J.C. Sept. 12, 14—Wanganui J.C. Sept. 21—Ashburton County R.C. Sept. -21—Foxton R.C. Sept. 21, 23—Avondale J.C. Sept. 26, 28—Geraldine R.C. Sept. 28 —Napier Park R.C. Sept. 28, 30—Taumarunui R.C. (at Paeroa). Smart Maiden. Wanganui reports credit Rady Hoariri as being a vastly improved' mare, and she was responsible for a smart gallop on Saturday morning. In her last start she was beaten only in the final few strides by Trouvaille at Marton, being in front practically from barrier rise. She revels in heavy going and with this in her favour as well, as the turning track, the Hoariri mare, should be hard to catch in the five furlong maiden event at New Plymouth next week. Hurdle Races Substituted. It is pleasing to note that the Masterton ,Racing Club has decided to .substitute hurdle races for the highweights each day at its October meeting. This is undoubtedly a move in the right direction, and it is to be hoped that

AlUiitiititfkiiiiiimiiifiiciiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiimiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiari the lead will be followed in the near future by other clubs w r hich have highweights on their programmes, for during the flat racing season all too little catering is done for jumpers. Slippery for Circuit. Slippery is stated to be definitely making the trip to the combined hunt meeting next week, after which he will probably continue on over the spring circuit in this part of the Island, racing at Marton, Wanganui, Otaki and Foxton. In the past Slippery has proved a useful horse to follow over similar circuits, racing most consistently, and despite his failures at Wellington and Manawatu last month he will have' plenty of friends in his approaching engagements. Should Ruu Well. When he raced over the EgmontWanganui May circuit, Capella Abbey ran fair races without winning, but back amongst the hunters again on the East Coast he w r on at Poverty Bay and ran second to Puccini at Gisborne under the steadier of 12.11. A fine jumper and a good plodder, Capella Abbey is not without prospects in the Pakuranga Hunt Club Cup on Saturday. Early Arrival. . An early arrival at New Plymouth for the combined hunt meeting next week is Lady Arikitoa, who went through yesterday and has joined H. Dulieu’s stable. The recent form of this Warplane mare has been excellent and with a first and a second in her last two starts she* must be respected in the Ladies’ Bracelet next week. Former Boom Hack. Twelve months ago Square Acre was one of the most boomed hacks in commission and towards the close of the season won three out of his last four starts all in most convincing manner. Subsequently he lost form, his efforts during the spring being very ordinary. He was then spelled and is down to make his reappearance in public at Pakuranga on Saturday, where he is engaged in the Sylvia Park Handicap. Square Acre is a five-year-old gelding by Aero out of a mare by Spalpeen, out of Repetition, and is owned by Mr A. Coubrough, of Hamilton. He was formerly trained by L. ICnapp, but is now being prepared by his owner. Pakuranga Riders. Riding engagements for Pakurang.7 include: — J. Burgess: Kiltowyn, Ardmanniivg (twice). H. Goldfinch: Star Artist, Kilberis. S. Tremain: Hunting Maid, Delrain, Cbarsong, Roman Mascot. S. J. Cammick: Heatherland, Primak. W. E. Pine: King Roy, Tradesman. R. W. Savage: Baroscope. P. Mcllroy: Kahunoke. F. E. Baker: Volition, Capella Abbey, Gascille. C. Simpson: Tea Chat.

Orapai invariably runs well On his home track, especially when the going is on the soft side, so with conditions to suit him he will have to be respected next week at the combined hunt meeting, despite his weight. At this fixture last year he. won the open event each day in good style, beating fairly useful fields on each occasion. Well Bred Hunter. A particularly well bred hunter engaged in 'the Trial Hunters’ Steeples at New Plymouth is Clarion Call, a five-year-old son of Hunting Song and Saxon Saint, owned by Mr G. R. Grace, of Inglewood, and trained at Marton by L. Knapp. In his only start to date Clarion Call ran a fair race in a Ladies’ Bracelet .at the Rangitikei Hunt meeting last month, so if he jumps correctly next week he should give, a good accofint of himself. Son of Rehutai. An interesting two-year-old in work at Ellerslie is Docility, by Yaals out of the former Taranaki mare Rehutai. This grey daughter of Lucullus and Acquatis was a fair performer in hack and later hurdle company when trained at Hawera several seasons ago- by J. Fryer. She has had several fohls, but none of them has yet raced. Docility is trained by F. Gilchrist. Nominations and Acceptances. Owners and trainers are reminded that acceptances for the first day of the combined Egmont-Wanganui and rMiiiiftifiiiMttiiaiiiiiMHHiiiiaiMMißi i«iim , m»iiii»«iiiiiii«ii»iiiii«

iiiifiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiimwimiiiiiiiiiiimiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiitin Taranaki Hunt Club fixture close -with the secretary, Mr C. P. Webster, of New Plymouth, at 9 o’clock to-morrow night.

Nominations close for the Marton Jockey Club’s spring fixture with the secretary, Mr Arthur Way, Box 3, Marton, at 9 o’clock to-morrow (Friday) night. Entries also close for the Wanganui Jockey Club’s spring meeting on September 12 and 14 with the secretary, Mr S. R. McCallum, at 8 o’clock to-morrow night. Well-Bred Youngsters. The Riecarton trainer F. D. Jones has some well-bred two-year-olds to represent him this season. The list includes Pelian, by Iliad from Goldspear, and Document, by Lord Warden from La Paix, both owned by Mr H. D. Greenwood. For Mr C. N. Draper he has Gustos, by Lord Warden from Matata, and Cerne Abbas, by LorJ : Warden from Monoxide. Girl Guide, by Lord Warden from Luminant, is owned by Mr Geo. Gould; Miracle, by Siegfried from Polly Peachum, by Mr D. E. Wanklyn; and Bereft, by Polazel from Miss Varco, will carry the colours of Mr H. A. Knight. Merry Way for Stud. Mr R. Barlow has disposed of his Arausio —Merry Jest mare Merry Way, to Mr L. S. Otway, and she is to be mated with the Waikato breeder’s new horse. Amyril has proved an impossibility to train and has been returned to her breeder, Mr John Gleeson, at Bell Block. This Psychology—Amyrian mare Was one of the speediest gallopers trained here in recent years, and won three consecutive races in brilliant style. However, she has been more or less a cot case ever since. Trainers’ Plans. J. M. Cameron is contemplating taking a team to Marton, Wanganui and then on to Avondale. Sir Nigel, Maine, Gold Trail and perhaps the PostefityGenesta two-year-old colt will make the trip. Cameron’s visit to Australia this spring is now definitely off. J. Clements also may take a team of three on the Marton-Wanganui-Avon-dale circuit, including the three-year-okl Pakanui. This colt is going along most impressively and it will not be surprising to see him winning one of the early Guineas events. Novice Shows Promise. Among the novices trained at Ellerslie few are showing more promise than To Broney, the five-year-old daughter of Ivilbroncy and Te Papapa. She is owned by Mr J. D. Kemp, who also raced Te Papapa, a good performer in her day, among her successes being the Auckland Guineas in 1915. Te Broney registered a smart gallop over five furlongs at Ellerslie last Saturday morning, and if she reproduces the same speed iu public a minor sprint event should soon come her way. This mare has never raced, but will make her initial appearance in the Auckland Handicap at Ellerslie next Saturday.
