Mr. J. El. Campbell, Mayor of Hawera, who is a member of the executive of the Municipal Association, left for Wellington on association business this morning. He expects to return on Saturday evening. Mr. A. B. Lane, manager of the United Press Association, who has been visiting Hawera and Stratford, left Hawera this morning on his return to Wellington. Lord Wakefield, whose name has been associated in recent years with the encouragement of record-breaking attempts on land, water and air, received yesterday the freedom of the City of London, says a British Official Wireless message. He is a former Lord Mayor and the honour is unique for a member of the corporation. Tributes were paid to Lord Wakefield’s many acts of generosity and benevolence.
