MARRIED WOMAN SHOT

Admitted to Hospital in a Serious Condition CHARGE AGAINST HUSBAND (By Telegraph —rresa Association.* PALMERSTON N., To-day. A young married' woman, Elsie Elizabeth Symes, was sent to hospital yesterday afternoon ,in a serious condition, the result of a pearifle bullet woun:s in her stomach. Her husband, Manley Symes, aged 1 22 years, was taken into custody and charged with assault and causing bodily harm. He was remanded until August 7. At 0.30 last evening the police received information that Mrs Symes had been injured by a gunshot, and were requested to go to the residence of Mrs Hcnrickson, Te Matai Road, on the outskirts, of the city. Mr and Mrs Symes arrived in Palmerston North weeks ago, and were staying with Mrs Hendrickson. Detective Barling, Acting-Detec-tive Beaton and Constable Miller immediately went to the house and subsequently they arrested the husband of the injured woman. Symes was sharemilking on Mr David Crewe’s farm at Mangaramarama, close to Pahiatua. He came from Foxton eighteen months ago and was on holiday, his brother minding the farm in his absence. Symes, who is a member of the Salvation Army, had signed a fresh contract for the coming season and was expected back shortly. His employer always regarded him as a good tempered, industrious young fellow who . seemed well satisfied with his job and was doing quite satisfactorily on the farm.
