DECREASE IN PAST YEAR

Copyright). Received 1 p.m. to-day. LONDON, July 23. The shipping tonnage is still shrinking. Lloyd’s register book for June 30 shows that, whereas between June, 1933, and June, 1934, there was a net decrease of 2,343,573 tons in the world total, during, the past twelve months world steam tonnage decreased by 1,330,R10 tons, motor tonnage increase ed by 700,165 tons and sailing and other craft decreased by 60,165 tons, making a further net decrease of 690,640 tons.

The only countries showing notable increases last year were: Greece 2(53,905 tons, Soviet Russia 171,522 tons, China. 56,546 tons. The largest decreases were: Britain 334,503 tons, France 272,917 tons. . The woild tonnage in June, 1935, was 64,885,972, compared with 65,577,612 tons last year. Nearly 1,750,000 tons were broken up in 1934. Less than two per cent, of the world tonnage was represented by sailing ships and nonpropelled barges.
