WOMEN’S CLUB

Music Evening In spite of the inclement weather there was a good attendance at the Women’s Club last Mouday evening, when an excellent programme, arranged by Mrs A. J. Corrigan, was presented. The large lounge was brightly adorned with jars of berried foliage and japonica xor the occasion. Miss C. Reilly, convener of the music circle, was frocked in floral crepe fergsyl under a lame coatee, Mrs Corrigan wearing au evening ensemble of marsh brown lace and georgette. The programme was as follows: Instrumental trio, piano, .’cello and violin (Mesdames Corrigan, Graham and Anderson), “Noveletten,” by Gande; 'songs, “ily Heart is Like a Singing Bird’’ and “The Wind,” Mrs W. H. SnowsiU. Then followed a talk on the life of Florence Nightingale by Mrs i>, C. Bennett, after which Mrs Bennett and Miss Bryant read an extract from “The .Lady with the Lamp,” by Reginald Berkeley. The programme continued with pianoforte solos, “Sequidillas” and “Refrain de Bei-ceau,” Mrs P. O, Veale; vocal numbers. “Vissi d’Arte” from “La Tosca” (Miss Reilly gave a brief description of this moving play and particularly mentioned the character to which her song !referred) and “Epitaph,' Miss Reilly; 1 instrumental trio, Mesdames Corrigan, I Graham and Anderson; lyric verse speaking, “Tarantella” and: “Four [Ducks on a) Pond,’’ !by Miss W. !Knight’s ladies’ choir; vocal numbers, I “One Fine Day,” from “Madame Butterfly” and “That’s All,” by Mrs W. H. SnowsiU; violin solos, “Hungarian Dance” and “Salut d’Amour,” Mrs Anderson; verse speaking and descriptive passages, “In the Wilderness” 'and “Heraclitus,” Mrs B. C. Bennett and Miss D. Bryant; songs, “Nocturne,” “The Faries’ Dance’’ and “The Funny Fellow,” Miss C. Reilly. Mesdames Veale, Corrigan and Anderson played the accompaniments. The audience included Mesdames J. Ekdahl, Paine (Pio Pio), W. Hamilton, W. R. Shaw, W. G. Simpson, G. A. Burgess. V 7;" V'. Gibson, J. Houston, S. A. Chisholm, J. E. Campbell, L. A. Ablett, N. Ashworth (Halcomhe), A. M. Young, T. F.
