NATIONAL DAIRY CONFERENCE
COAL FREIGHT THOUGHT TOO HIGH. MEAT BOARD REPRESENTATION. (By Te/egrapn—rress Association.) PALMERSTON N., June 27. At the National Dairy Association conference the whole afternoon was taken up in listening to addresses bv the association’s solicitor, who explained aspects of tho recent relief legislation, and Mr Walter Nash, M.P., who pleaded the cause of guaranteed prices. A remit bearing on this subject will be before the conference to-morrow. The. following remits were carried during the day: . . That the conference is of the opinion that railage freights on coal are too high adding considerably to the production c -sts of dairy produce, and that the Railway Board should be asked to consider favourably a -substantial reduction of such freights. That in view of the importance of the boneless beef, veal and export pork trade as an auxiliary to the dairy industry, the conference impresses upon the Government the desirability of the dairy industry being directly represented on the Meat Board and urges the Government to bring this into effect.
