WIN FOR TARANAKI
Wellington Rugby Team Beaten by Two Points ANNUAL MATCH AT HAWERA HOME FORWARDS DECIDE ISSUE tTOR the first time since 1929, when Taranaki won G—3, the Taranaki Rugby representatives defeated Wellington at Hawera yesterday by 11 points to 9 (three tries each, one Taranaki try being converted) before a crowd of approximately 5000 people. The match was a most spectacular one and the crowd found plenty of thrills to keep them in a fever of excitement from beginning to end. Taranaki’s tries were scored by Ford (2) and C. Brown (1), one'being converted by Collins. Wellington’s quota was registered by Lilburne, Baldwin and Ball, who scored one try each. As the match ended Wellington had a glorious opportunity to make the issue a draw when Baldwin scored near the posts, but Lilburne, who took the kick, missed an easy one and the 55th match between the two provinces ended in favour of Taranaki. The match was won by the forwards, the Taranaki pack playing in a manner reminiscent of the best traditions of the game. Although there were occasional periods when the Wellington pack broke through, the Taranaki backs rose to the occasion and held them up until the forwards got round into position again.
