MEREMERE
OPENING OF HALL.. (From Our Own Correspondent). There was a large number of visitors, as well as residents, at the opening of the Meremere Hail. The evening took the form of a euchre tourney and dance. Prizes for the euchre were won by Miss Reynolds after a play-off with Miss Judd and Mr J. Davison. A Monte Carlo ■waltz was won by Mr and Mrs Foreman. In declaring the hall open, Air G. W, Williams thanked those who had helped in the construction of the hall and spoke of the splendid way the people had responded in supplying the necessary funds and labour to make the building a success. Messrs G. Wallace and A. Allan spoke of the improvements in the district since they bad first settled there some forty to fifty years ago. Air John Kerrisk, Oliangai, congratulated the Aleremere people on having a hall in the district and assured them that the Ohangai people would support any functions which were held as long as the functions; did not dash with those held in Ohangai. Alusic for the dancing was supplied by Alessrs J. Bloor, S. Geary and WAlurray. 'The duties of masters of ceremonies were carried out by Alessrs A. Williams and AI. Alurray. FAREWELL EVENING. Alembers of the Aleremere Cricket Club met at Air J.. Blcor’s residence To farewell Mr L. Symes, who is leaving the district. In presenting Air Symes with a small gift, Air W. J« Geary, captain of the Aleremere team, spoke of the way Air Symes had always been ready to help whenever needed and wished him every happiness .in his future home. Mr Symks suitably responded.
