PRESENTATIONS AT TAWHITT. AIR AND AIRS TIDSAVELL HONOURED. Ah* and Alins A. Tidswell, who are leaving the Tawliiti district, where All* Tidswell for the past five years has been manager of the dairy factory. were favewelled by the of the district last night, there being an attendance of approximately 300 people. Air Tidswell leaves! the service of the Hawera Co-op. Dairy Co. to become manager of the Meremere Company’s factory at Ateremere. The evening took the form of a concert and dance, the chairman of the committee for th© purpose, Air W. Parker, presiding. Prior to introducing tho various speakers, Air Parker saio. that .he wished to convey to Ah* and Airs Tidswell and family the sincere regret which was felt by the Tawhiti district residents at their departure from Tawhiti. The. speaker then introduced the new manager, Mr J. R. Aloller. Ah* C. H. Bowman, general manager of the Hawera Dairy Company, referred to Air Tidswell’s ability as an employee of his company, and also to the' respect in which he was held by his fellow employees. Air Bowman said he was sorry to see Air Tidswell leave the service of the company but at the same time h© felt pleased that the guest was doing something which would turn out for his own good. On behalf of the directorate of the company, All* AV. Reid endorsed tlio remarks of Air Bowman.

The general regret felt by all residents of the district at the departure of Mr and Mrs Tidswell was voiced by the chairman of the hall committee (Mr H. W. Young). Mr Young said he was pleased to be able to assure the gathering that although the guest of the evening were leaving the immediate vicinity of Tawhiti their interest would be centred in the district and its doings for seme time to come. In presenting the guests with a chiming clock and a fireside chair, with a book of New Zealand memories for Master Brian Tidswell, Mr W. O. Williams, Tawhiti . representative on the directorate of the 1 Hawera Dairy Company, also made reference to the sterling qualities of Mr Tidswell. The speaker said he felt the company was losing a good servant, a man who always put his work bcDre anything else and who carried oit in its entirety any instruction psssed on to him by the directorate. L these days of the dairy industry, wlen changes were being made to keep apace with modern requirements, Mr Williams considered that Mi- Tidswell would go very far. Conscientiousness both on and off the job, was one of the features of Mr Tidswell’s service to the company. In returning thanks, Mr Tidswelf said that the five years he hai spent La Tawhiti were among the hppiest. years of his life. He paid a. ribute to the good-will of the suppliers,every one of whom was not only' a soplier but also a man who could be loked upon as a friend, both to him ad to Mrs Tidswell. He desired to psr a special tribute to the Maori suppers and thanked them for their extime friendliness to him and his fanilv during t.heir stay at Tawhiti. Mch as he disliked the idea of leaving Ytwhiti, he felt he had himself and j s family to think of and it was neecsary for him to obtain further expet ence in his profession. Ho agai, thanked the residents for the presen tation, .saving that it would always serve to remind him and Mrs Tidswell of the happy days spent amongst the Tawhiti people. - Under pressure from the assembly Mrs Tidswell, who had boon president of the Women’s* Institute prior to last year, made a short, speech of thanks. Mr Moller,. the now manager, in thanking the residents for }iis welcome expressed the hope that his stay in Tawhiti would be as pleasant as that of his predecessor. Items were contributed to the concert programme by Mr and Mrs H. Toka, Messrs. 11. Briggs, du Fresne. 11. Collier, Miss M. Leggett and Master Stuart Nairn. The accompaniments were played bv Messrs. W. Barleyman and H. Toka. Music for the dance was supplied by Messrs Barleyman and H. Prime.
