Dr. D. H. Saunders returns to Eltham this evening after attending the funeral of his father at Dunedin. The Rev. J. R. Archer, of Christchurch, who has been spending a few days in Wanganui, arrived in Hawera this morning. The death occurred at Whangarei on Sunday last of Mr William Newman Towers, the eldest son of Mrs Charles Young, of Normanby, and the late Mr William Towers, a former early settler of the district. Born at Masterton, in Lincolnshire, England, he came to New Zealand with Iks. parents at the age of five years. lie married M iss Drewett, a native of Wales, at New Plymouth and removed to Whangarei. He is survived by his widow, three children and four grandchildren. The .funeral took place at Whangarei.
