A -detailed recipe for apple cake is as follows: Take one cup fairly moist stewed ap.ple, two cups flour, one cup sugar, two teaspoonfuls mixed spice, half tenspoonful nutmeg, one cup figs and ginger, one cup dates, one cup sultanas, one cup seeded raisins, one teaspoonful carbonate of soda, jib. butter and some almonds to spread on top. Rub butter into dry ingredients, stir in fruit, including the apple, and add soda dissolved in half teacup hot water. This makes a stiff mixture. Bake in a very slow oven about three hours.
