A Jersey cow which had been brought from Takapuna to ship on the Devonport vehicular ferry fell into the harbour yesterday morning, and after much difficulty was directed and partially towed to the beach. The animal was numb with cold, and whisky was used as a restorative, but without effect. A block and tackle was also used to try to get the cow on its feet. When this was not a success, the inspector for the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Mr J. J. Hollingsworth, was communicated with. He went to Devonport and superintended the destruction of the animal.
