Animals at. the Zoo are usually to be found ceaselessly padding up and down to the limits of their confined quarters, but the polar bear at Wellington Zoo does not take advantage of the very long walk available in frcnt of its pond, and paces back and forth only the length that animals in ordinary cages do. The curator, Mr J. Langridge, thinks that the pacing habit was developed when the bear was in a cage in previous ownership, and that it still measures out the length of t,he quarters in which it was reared. The opinion widespread overseas that New Zealand is a. country consisting almost entirely of hot springs and boiling pools is likely to be fostered even further when the film, “This Motoring,” which is being made by the Automobile Association, England, to show the world-wide ramifications of the association and its affiliated bodies is completed. The Auckland Association at a meeting last evening was asked to contribute 30ft of film for the production. “It must portray local (New Zealand) colour—something really striking—a patrol helping a. ear or planting a sign with hot springs steaming in the background,” wrote the English body. The producer’s instructions were similar. “It seems that a shot of a camping or luncheon party with hot springs as a background and a patrol being called to perform some service would be the required shot,” he wrote. The Auckland Association- decided to have the film made immediately. HUNTINGTON’S. ’Phone 2118.
