SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING. (From Our Own Correspondent) The monthly meeting of the Maim in School Committee was held on Wednesday, those present being Messrs O. T. Parry (chairman), P. Instone. Rev. It. Miller, G. Butler, «J. Lawson, J 5. Illoor, J. Crompton, V. Adlam and J. Browning (headmaster). An apology for Kilby. The headmaster reported that the absence was received from Mr H. roll numbers of the primary and secondary departments were respectively 214 and 49 and the averages 201.5 and 45. The district nurse (Sister Jewjss) paid a visit to the school this month preparatory to the visit of the duexir- on June 17. The secondary department boys’ visit'to the State faun had been deferred. Arrangements had been made to co-ordinate the manual, scientific and vocational courses. A second visit was proposed lor the spring period. A considerable number of entries had boon set down for the, Uawera winter show.

Rough grass had been considerably [ reduced in both playing fields. Mr| 11. Mead had offered to provide trees for planting at the Manaxa Domain on Arbor Day. This dav should he fix- 1 rd for the first week in August. -Mr (1. Clegg was" for two weeks detached from the school to relievo at Okau. So far he has not returned. . On Monday. June' 10. representatives of the local bodies visited the, school to present a shield won by the! school at the King's jubilee cciebra-j lions.

The chairman reported on his interview with the Town Board as to whether the town’s water supply was in a fit condition for the children to drink. The board stated that the water was ni good household condition. A letter was received from .Mr A. Clarke asking the committee to accept a set of 21 volumes of “The Times” V.ar history for the secondary department. These were gratefully accepted and the secretary was instructed to forward a. letter of appreciation to the donor. A grant of C2 was passed for the encouragement of vocal training iu the secondary department and it was also decided to purchase a number of pictures. A letter is to bo written to the Town Board drawing attention to the water lying in the front and the back of the school and also to the pot holes on the road.
