SHORTAGE OF HOUSES
SCHEME TO INDUCE BUILDING. USE OF UNEMPLOYMENT SUBSIDY. (By Telegraph— l’rcsis Association.) WELLINGTON, June 12. The shortage of houses at Wellington led to the central committee of allied building organisations meeting yesterday to consider ways and means of encouraging citizens to 1 take greater advantage of the building subsidy. One member remarked that- be had advertised a house to let anti received approximately 200 replies within 24 hours.
The general conclusion reached was that the public did not appreciate the advantage of subsidies to property owners and prospective home builders, as much as the board’s help warranted, or the simple processes by which the subsidies could be obtained. Jt was decided that a greater degree of publicity would be an advantage to the trade and employment generally, and a small committee was appointed to go into details and bring down various .schemes to give publicity to the subsidy.
