INDIAN HOCKEY TEAM

ANNOUNCEMENT °'F PERSONNEL Advice has been received by Mr E. Urry, Eltham/ secretary of the Taranaki Hockey Association, that the personnel of the ■ Indian hockey team to visit New Zealand this season will be as follows, position of play and residence in parentheses : Mr Lerliam Doctor (manager), Mr P. Eupta (assistant manager), H.H. the ruling chief of Manavadar .(captain-forward), Mr Dyan Chand .(forward- Army), Rup Singh (Gawlior-forward), Mr T. Blake (Sinali-goalkeeper), Mr N. Mukergio (Bengal-goalkeeper), Mr P. Dass (Bengal-back), Mr E. Wester (Bengal-half-back), Mr L. Davidson (Bengalforward), Mr M. I. Hussein (Mana-vadar-back), Mr M. N. Magud (Mana-vadar-forward), Mr Shahbudin (Mana-vadar-forwardj, Rushed Ahmed (Pun-jab-back), Mr M. I. Naeen (Punjab-lialf-back), Mr H. G. Agnihotri (United Pi’ovinces-forward), Mr F. Veils (United Provinces-forwavd). It. is quite certain that this team is muck stronger than the Indian Army team which visited Now Zealand in 1926, and which had such a. successful tour. Dyan Chand and Rupli Singh, his. younger brother, are classed by compete lit critics as being the two greatest hockey forwards in the world. They are frequently referred to as the Indian hockey wizards. Both these players are Olympic champions. Mr Borham Doctor advises that the members of the team are particularly keen on and that many members are keen bridge players. NEW CLUB FORMED.

Mr E. Urry, secretary of the Taranaki Hockey Association, has received advice that a junior men’s hockey club lias been formed at Pihama. It is not yet known in which division this club will be allocated to play.
