Old Boys of St. Pat’s Attend Thanksgiving Mass CIVIC RECEPTION ACCORDED ANZAC DAY PARADE

, WELLINGTON, .To-day. The jubilee celebrations of St. Patrick’s commenced to-day with a Mass of ; thanksgiving’ at the Basilica. The celebrant - was jbhe Rev. Arphbishop ■O’Shea, wh'o was the first student ax St. Patrick’s College, and the officiating priests • were ail old boys of the school. The preacher was the Right Rev. Monsignor Morkane, D.D», M.A., who spoke on the subject of education.

, The Basilica .was crowded, the attendance including very many from OUtsitle . Well iiigton. Among the congratulatory Messages received" is One from Cardinal ' Pumasoni-Biondi, the Cardinal Prefect- of Propaganda at Rome, and another from \bhe Rev. Father Rieu, Superior-General of tho Society of Alary, Rome. About 400 present- boys of . St. Patrick’s College and Silverstream College attended the Mass, the local hoys assembling in Guilford Terrace and the' Silverstream boys marching from Lambton Station. Music for the Mass ivaS provided by the hoys choir of Silverstream' 'College, under the conductor ship of . Father C. Feebly. At 12.15 p.m. in the Council Chamber of the Town Hall the Mayor Mr T. . O. A. Hislop) conveyed to the college and its old , hoys the city’s congratulations in a civic reception. Archbishop O’Shea and Mr B. McCarthy (Hawera), .the president of the Old Boys’ 'Association, replied to the Mayor. ! ■ The Provincial of the Society of Alary tendered a luncheon to. the. Hierarchy and clergy at the college at 1.30 p.m. About- 70. priests, many of whom are old boys, attended. Elaborate arrangements have been made to entertain the large number of o-uests at the college to-night at a

conversazione and reception by the rector and his staff. Suitable speeches will be made to mark the occasion, the highlight of which will be the presentation to the trustees of the National Memorial Art Gallery of a portrait in oils of the late Archbishop RedIwood, the founder of the college. The Mayor, Mr Hislop, who is acting chairman of the trustees in the absence of the Prime Minister, will receive it. The Auzac Day procession from the coiTege to St.’ JHary of the Angels in Boulcott -Street and thence to the War Memorial should be, from the public point of view, the most spectacular function of the celebrations. Past and present students are ,to assemble on Anzac Day and march through the city to the church, where a Solemn Requiem Mass for deceased old boys will be celebrated by ChaplainCaptain Moloney, S.M., 1891-1893). The deacon will be Chap-lain-Captain Bartley, S.M., N.Z.bl. (who taught at the college from 1900 to 1915), the wdl be lain-Captain Daly, N.Z.E.b., (iduu. 1903), and the master of ceremonies will be Chaplain-Captain Murphy, S-M. (1899-1903). Chaplain-Major McDonald, S-M-, N Z.E.F., will preach the occasional sermon.
