MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS
Local Body Seats ; Contested in Most Centres AUCKLAND CITY MAYORALTY ONE LABOUR NOMINEE
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, To-day. There are three .' candidates for the Auckland city mayoralty, namely, Messrs Ernest Davis, Joseph Sayegh and A. JY Stallworthy, M.P. Mr H. G. B. Mason’s nomination this morning for the mayoralty was a surprise as Mr Sayegh was chosen some weeks ago as the official Labour candidate. Later Mr Mason withdrew, leaving three candidates. For the city council (21 seats) there are 58 candidates, including full citizens’ and Labour tickets and three Communists. There are 28 candidates for six city seats on the Auckland Transport Board. There.will be contests in most of the suburbs, but in : the One Tree Hill borough Mayor I. J. Goldstone and the entire council again are unopposed for the second time in succession.
Mr B. Eerner .is unopposed as Mayor of Mt.-Albert.
TWO WANGANUI CANDIDATES. WANGANUI, To-day. .Nominations for the Wanganui ! mayoralty include Messrs W. M. .Ealconer and W. J. Rogers. Twenty-four nominations have been received for 12 seats on the council.
MAYOR MANSFORD UNOPPOSED. PALMERSTON N., To-day. Of the city council nominations •i Mayor A, E. Mansford is unopposed ■ and there are ,14 candidates for nine •council seats, seven" for' four' council seats on the Palmerston .North HbsI pital Board and four candidates for two district seats on the Wellington .Harbour Board. l
LARGE . TIMARU FIELD. TIMA.RU, To-day. Four candidates have .been nominated for the Timaru mayoralty, including rMessrs T. W. . Satterthwaite (sitting Mayor), A. M. Patterson, G. T. .Roller and G. Benstead. Seventeen candidates have been nominated for nine seats on the council, six for three seats on the Hospital Board, fivS for three seats on the Power. Board and five for three seats on the Harbour Board.
..DANNEVIRKE VACANCY. DANNEVIRKE, To-day. Mayoral nominations in, the Dafhnevirlce municipal elections include Messrs E. Gibbard and S. McNabb. The present Mayor (Mr M. D. Smith) is retiring. .There are 11 nominations for nine council seats.
