Good Looks a Handicap.

j It is a terrible handicap for a young actor to be known as “the handsomest man in Hollywood.” Phillip Heed, who has the jiivenilc role in “Big Hearted Herbert,” which comes to the, Grand Theatre on Saturday and Monday, has tried to live it dow r n. When he' first arrived from the Hew York stage, the doubters all predicted that he would try to get by on his- looks alone. This made it necessary for him to work twice as hard. He was determined to prove that lie knew acting was more important than being tall and handsome. In ten of his first twelve pictures for Warners, he had played difficult roles and •he played them so well that for months no critic has made a reference to his face and figure. He has made them notice his acting and forget his looks. Among his successful pictures were “College Coach,” “Female,” “Gambling Lady,” “British. Agent” and “Lost Lady.”

Ralph Bellamy. Ralph Bellam\- joined a travelling stock company at the age of seventeen and spent the better part of the next • ten years acquiring the knowledge and technique of dramatics that has since stood him in great stead. His tlrst Broadway part was opposite Helen Hayes in “Coquette,” followed by numerous other New York stage hits. Arrived in Hollywood in 193.1 for roles in I “The Secret Six” and “.Magnificent , Lie.” Other films include “Forbidden.” “West of Broadway,” “Surrender” and the “Inspector Trent” serie»s, “One is Guilty,” and the current “The Crime of Helen Stanley,” which will be seen at the Grand Theatre on Saturday ’ and Monday.
