CHAPTER OF ACCIDENTS

COLLISIONS IN HASTINGS DISTRICT. STRATFORD MAN INJURED. (by Tfeiegrapn —Press Association.) HASTINGS, To-day. Accidents involving rather serious injury but no deaths occurred this morning in the district. The first happened at about two a-.m. when a light truck, driven by Mr William Drummond, of Ormondville, with two passengers, collided with a motorcycle driven by a man named McKenzie, of Napier, half a mile on the Hastings side of Rakipaki.. The lorry capsized but none of the occupants was hurt. McKenzie suffered severe injuries. The second accident occurred at an intersection in Hastings. Mr Kevin O’Halloran, of Napier, was driving to Palmerston North when his car skidded, striking a telegraph pole on the corner and rebounding on to another car driven by Mr N. J. Edwards, of Hastings. O’Halloran was thrown out of the car but had 'his leg pinned and some difficulty was experienced m freeing him. The third smash occurred: at 11 o’clock this morning at the intersection of Railway and Marekakaho Roads two miles from Hastings. A lorry driven by IVIr Pen Landnll loaded, with cases of apples, collided, with a light car driven by Mr Reg. Ferris, of Stratford, containing as his passengers Messrs S. Sutton and W. Clark, also of Stratford, all of whom were attending a bowling tournament. Ferris sustained extensive head injuries and the otheTS suffered shock and abrasions.
