DR ROSS’ SEVENTH WIN. FERGUSON RUNNER-UP. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, April 22. Dr K. Ross won his seventh Otago amateur golf championship to-day. The final was played on the Balinacewan links in a heavy north-east gale/ the other finalist, T. B. Ferguson, _. .putting up a good fight to go down at the 17tlx green 2 and 1. Dr Ross, who first won the provincial championshix>- in 1914, put up an excellent iJerformance, showing remarkable steadiness under ,trying conditions.; '

The Canterbury championship decided on four rounds of medal play, was won by A. R. Blank with a score of 300. Other scores were: C. J. Ward 305, R. G, Arnould 307, J. Galloway 307 and J. Millard 308. The Southland provincial championships were concluded on the Invercargill club’s course at Otatara to-day in fine weather. The championship was won by J. G. Niccpl (Queen’s Park, Invercargill), who defeated J, S. Dick (Invercargill) : in the final over 36 holes by 5 and 4. The Southland Plate, a new event in which the four who were defeated in the first round of championship and next four •on the qualifying list take part, was won by J. H. McDougall (Otago), who defeated H. W. Rogers (Invercargill) in the final, over holes by 4 and 2. .. In the junior championship F. E. Holdgate (Invercargill) defeated T. Double (Queen’s Park) in the final over 36 holes 1 up. In the second round of the Wellington -provincial championship at Heretaunga to-lay Hornabrook beat Whyte 5 and 3, Silk beat Cook 2 and 1, J. Black beat Wagg I up, and Watson beat Parker 4 and 2.

PLAY AT MIDDLEMORE. TWO MORNING SURPRISES. AUCKLAND, To-day. The first two rounds of the Auckland provincial golf championship ar® being played at Middlemore to-day. There were two surprises in tlie morning play, when H. Buckley of Whangarei, defeated H. Brinsden, and J. M. Young was defeated by' another Titirangi player, Clifford. The best round of the morning was made by B. O. Thompson, who finished one up on bogey. Detailed results are :
