FEILDING MEETING

MANY SURPRISE WINS FIRST DAY’S FORM REVERSED

HAWERA HORSES FAIL AGAIN

(By “Childers.”) For the second day at Feilding the weather was decidedly boisterous, a cold easterly wind making matters rather unpleasant. The totalisator handled £14,689, against £16,448 last year. The total for the meeting was £29,/61, against £30,921 10s last year, a decrease of £ll6o 10s. There were many upsets on the opening day’s form at. Feilding yesterday for, although three actual favourites won, in the remainder of the events the public .were well wide of the mark throughout the day. Hawera horses again fared poorly, although Lady Kyra gave Taranaki stables one success. Constant Sun’s Impressive Win.

Constant Sun was sent out favourite in the Kimbolton Hurdles—in a good betting race —justifying the support by winning comfortably. Park Acre led over tlie first fence from Invictus and Henry of Navarre, but passing the stand the first time the leader hit hard, Nicol making a fine recovery. Invictus and Henry of Navarre, then took charge from Park Acre and Sunny Song, this being the order into the back stretch, where Constant Sun made a fast run from the rear of the field and with three furlongs to go was in front from Headland, Henry of Navarre and Park Aero. Constant Sun was well clear at the last fence and went on to win comfortably by five lengths f rom Park Acre, who was three lengths ahead of Invictus. Henry of Navarre was fourth, Sunny Song next and Headland last. Constant Sun won impressively, outclassing the field. He should be heard from again shortly. Park Acre made another bold showing, and but for his bad jump might have troubled the winner. ' Nicol received an ovation on returning to the birdcage. Invictus went well and is a likely improver. Sunny Song again ran poorly, while Headland and Henry of Navarre weakened over the final stages. Reipar in Close Finish.

In a great finish Reipar improved on his first day’s form to win narrowly in the Rewa Hack Handicap, paying a double-figure dividend. Wasteland shot out to the front at the barrier rise from Koicroa and Orac, the latter taking charge after a furlong to lead across the top from ■ Wasteland, Koreroa, Reipar and Dialogist. Reipar joined Orac turning into the straight, closely attended by° Wasteland, Koreroa and Boon, with Gold Mission wide out putting in a run from 'well back. In a fine struggle Reipar won by a nose from Orac, with Gold Mission half a length away third. Boon was fourth, followed by Leprechaun, Koreroa and Dialogist. Reipar hung on much better than he did on Saturday. Orac made another very creditable showing, and so did Gold Mission, who w-as most unlucky, and with a better passage would probably liavn won. The favourite, Leprechaun, also did not have the best of luck.

Trislma’s Main Event. Trishna caused another "boil over” in the Easter Handicap by leading practically all the way. When the Held settled down Rust was in front, leading nut of the straight from True Shaft, Trishna and Miss Hushnbye, with Chief Marionette and Pladic together. Trishna then ran through to lead down the back stretch from Miss Hushabye, Rust and Pladic, this still being the order into the straight, although the field had closed up. Chief Marionette and Pladic both challenged, but Trishna was not extended to win by two and a half lengths. In a great set-to for second place Pladic, Rust and Chief Marionette passed the post in that order, separated by heads only. Trishna scored decisively, it being a big improvement on his first day’s form. Pladie ran another solid race, 'and so did Rust. Chief Marionette had a perfect run on the rails all the way, but was not quite good enough.

Outsider Scores Again. The third successive outsider won when Vivienne led nearly all the way to come home an easy winner. Merlyn and Bazaine were actually the first to break the line, but when the field settled down Vivienne raced to the front to quickly open up a gap on Bazaine, Merlyn, Garter Red and Apopo. There was absolutely no change in the order, Vivienne entering the straight well clear of Bazaine, and, although the latter challenged, he was unable to make any impression on Vivienne, who won by two and a half lengths, with Morlyn two lengths further back, third. Trimdcn was fourth, then came Waitohu and Garter Red. Vivienne bore out her promising effort on Saturday, showing au excellent turn of speed. Both Bazaine and Merlyn made fair showings, but the remainder of the field was not impressive. Lady Kyra Wins.

Well handled by G. Duncan in the Denbigh Handicap, Lady Kyra lay m behind the loaders until the straight entrance, where she came through to win well. From a splendid start the field raced in line for over a furlong before Bodylinc, The Tiger and. Limulus, still on terms, showed out slightly from the others. Bodyline was actually a shade in front entering the straight, with Lady Kyra showing up on the inside. Limulus took charge at the distance, but could not hold off Lady Kyra, who won by a neck. BodylincVas two lengths away third, The Tiger fourth, Souchong next and Boughal last. Lady Kyra is improving/ with racing. Limulus did much better

th-m on the opening- day and Bodylinc made another very solid showing. Tho Tiger looked a .possibility at the top of ° the straight, but then faded out. Boughal never really looked a possibility.

Fulojoy Not Troubled. Fulo.ioy was sent out a hot favourite in the Awahuri Nursery Handicap, proving to be the best of good things by winning very easily. Matrir#ony was the first to break the line, being joined after a furlong by Fulojoy, with Alchemic and Surprise Item handy. Fulojoy led Matrimony into the straight and went on to win comfortably by a length and a half. Alchemic finished better than the rest to beat Rompalong by a neck. Matrimony was a close fourth, with a gap of several lengths back to Surprise Item and Entail. I ulojoy outclassed the others, winning very easily. Alchemic made a solid showing, but could not handle the turning track. Rompalong ran fairly.

Favourites Run Badly. Round Score and Ingenuity were the best supported in the Oroua Hack Cup, but both failed badly, being the two last to finish. Dorado was the first to move from Kurapac, Wahino Nui and Ingenuity. Going out of the straight Kurapao took charge, opening up a break of four lengths on Dorado, with Ingenuity and Wahino Nui handy and a gap back to Timorous, who headed the bunch. Onewhetu moved up crossing the top to follow Kuiapae into the straight, with Wahine Nm, Dorado and Lapel following. The last mentioned then shot through to win by hall a length from Kurapae, with Onewhetu three-quarters of a length away third. Dorado was a good fourth, closely attended by Count Willonyx, Wahino Nm and Timorous. Lapel won nicely, staying on in good -style. He was ridden aiT excellent race by Savage. More patiently handled, Kurapae would probably have won. Onewhetu made lits usual solid showing, but Round Score and Ingenuity were most disappointing, Midian Wins Decisively. Only four horses lined up for the final event, the Makino Handicap, and the favourite, Midian, came away in tho straight to win well. Refresher and Sanguine King left the barrier on terms

alia, setting "a fast pace, raced over the early stages, together. They opened up a break of four lengths on Midian, with Pomp t’.vo lengths further back, this being the order into the straight. Unwinding a fast run, Midian cut down the leaders to win as lie liked by two lengths. Pomp just getting up in timeto beat Sanguine King by a short head, with Refresher a similar distance away. Midian was never really in danger ol defeat. Pomp made a fair showing, but the'“cut-throat” tactics adopted by the riders of Sanguine King and Refresher did not assist either horse. The concluding results are: — DENBIGH HANDICAP. Of £l5O. Six furlongs.
