ITALO-ABYSSINIAN RELATIONS. MUSSOLINI’S PROPHECY. Crut-ed Press Association —By Electric Telegrapt Copyright). LONDON, April 20. Mr Harold Pemberton, the “Daily Express’ ” special correspondent who was lately in Abyssinia, where lie interviewed the Emperor Rns Tafari, describes from Rome how Signor Mussolini invited him to the Foreign Office and interviewed him, “rapping out questions with the precision of a ma-chine-gun.” Afr Pemberton told Signor Mussolini that his impression was that the Emperor wanted peace and would grant all the demands approved by the League of Nations’ arbitrators. Signor Mussolini’s only comment was that the situation was serious.
Signor Mussolini explained that Italy was occupying only a small area of ground, that Somaliland was badly placed strategically and that It ay’s troops were only a precautionary measure.
Asked for his opinion about the world situation, Signor Mussolini said: “I will make only one prophecy. There will not be war this year.”
