FIRE SWEEPS WRECKED AREAS ?
(United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph Copyright). . Received 11.30 a.m. to-day. TOKIO, April 21. TT is estimated that 2495 were killed or died of injuries and 1 that 5770 were injured in a severe earthquake which devastated six villages, in the Taiehu district of central Taiwan, Formosa, yesterday. A total of 12,122 houses weie , and 11,346 damaged. Fire broke out afterwards and wipe out the six villages. All communications have been The epicentre of the earthquake is believed to be 20 mi . north-east of Taiehu. The heaviest casualties and damage occurred at Taiehu, Shinchiku, and Shokeelung all on the west central mountain range, also at Karenko on the. east coast,. The Taiehu city municipal office reports that missionaries, believed to be British, are safe, and the office has not heard of any foreign deaths.
