ONE RINK UNBEATEN

SUCCESS OF PARK SKIP PLAY IN EASTER TOURNEY SIX ROUNDS COMPLETED.

O'nly one rink, that skipped by’ A. C. Smith (Park) remained unbeaten at the end of the sixth round of section play r in the South Taranaki Easter bowling tournament on Saturday. Smith had a stroke of luck in the last game when he played P. Douglass (West End). Time was called and the score was 19-all. An extra head was played and Smart’s men quickly held the shot, two being clustered round kitty when the skips, after a good deal of deliberation, went down t° play. Douglass, playing first, drove hard and picked oil one bowl, narrowly missing kitty. Smith drew the shot, without enough green, and. Douglass went all out to draw to kitty r . lie failed and the game was over. A feature of the game was that T. Sheehy, third for West End, played a beautiful drawing shot which completely missed all the bowls round the jack, going through between kitty and the shot with a bare quarter-inch of clearance. Had he touched the result might have ,heen different. Rinks with five wins each were those skipped by r N. H. Murray (Hawera) and E. Espiner (Manaia), W. W. Thomas (Park), C. Shealian (Patea), Andrews (Manaia) and J. Foy (Hawera) and L. J. Bull (Hawera). Murray had a great tussle with F. Brett (Park) and with about three heads to go the score was even. Then, in one of those changes which make the game so interesting, Murray’s men put them all round the jack. Brett elected to drive, and with a great effort which just missed kitty lie picked off one bowl. Murray scored seven on that head and the complexion of the game was changed completely. Thomas, though once sending a howl on the wrong bias, went through the day without a-loss, the third man, .T. M. Nielson, howling particularly well towards the end of the day. Sheahan scored a big win over Douglass. Foy had one verv close game. . The Hawera greens, Park, Manaia and Hawera, played better, if anything, than the day before, and the absence of wind made the games interesting if only because of the scientific accuracy required. Results in addition to those published in Saturday’s late edition of the “Hawera Star” were as follow: SECTION A—MANAIA GREEN.
