south island championship TITLE TO WEST (BLENHEIM) (By Telegraph—Press Association.) BLENHEIM, April 21. The South Island rifle championship meeting concluded at Vernon range on Saturday and provided an exceptionally close finish for the belt, W. H. West (Blenheim) winning by two points from N. Mansen (Nelson). Following are the lr/icUng aggregates : West 281, Mansen 279, J. H. Jones (Culverden) 273, T. Goodall (Suburbs, Wellington) 269, J. McCallum (Blenheim) 269, F. H. Sharland (Nelson) 266, W. A. Kenning (Wairau Valley) 265. West won the midfield aggregate for the best performance over 300, 500 and two 600 yard ranges. McCallum was second with 181, followed by C. A. Hadfield (president of the Marlborough Rifle Association), Mansen and Jones each with 180.
S. A. Barnett (Nelson) last year’s belt winner, was not present.
