KAPONGA

CONVENT SCHOOL PICNIC. (From Our Chvn Correspondent). There was a large attendance of pupils, parents and friends at O'punakc beach last Thursday on the occasion of the Kaponga Convent school’s annual picnic. Perfect weather prevailed throughout the day. Two lorries and a number of private cars transported the picnickers to the beach, where swimming, sports aud games occupied the major portion of the day. v Lunch and afternoon tea was .served by the, ladies, and sweets and soft drinks were also, given to the children. Father T. McDermott was in charge of.the sports programme and Messrs D. Malone, L. Chamberlain and J. Hammersley were the Jiandicappers. The judges -were Messrs 3V. Melville, J. Brown and J, 3lurpliy, who liad difficulty in separating the placed ) contestants in a number of races, some very keen, finisnes being witnessed. At the’conclusion of the day, Father McDermott expressed thanks to those who had donated the prizes, sweets and fruit, and to all those who had assisted in the outing. Mr. S. L. Palmer has returned after a holiday spent at MiJ.ford Sound and other scenic resorts.

Renewed building activity lias taken place at Kaponga recently. One new dwelling has been completed and another is well under way. Internal structural alterations are also being carried out at the Farmers’ Co-op. premises, Eltham Road. Mr. Charles Handing has returned after a fortnight’s holiday spent in the Wanganui, Palmerston and Hawke’s Bay districts. 3liss Betty Hollard is on a holiday visit to Auckland. ' Mr. G. Galland, Nelson, is visiting Kaponga and is the guest of Mr. and 3Jrs. T. T. Jonas Allocations under No. 6 scheme this week are one A, two B, three O, three B', one E, and one G elass workers. Vital at Kaponga for February were nil as compared with live births, one death and one marriage for February, 103-1.

3Jr. and 3lrs. O. E. Cbamptaluup left last week for Auckland on route to Hustings, where they will reside in future.
