rßoid Jim Wins the Sandon flighweight TRIAL TO LEPRECHAUN SURPRISE IN OHAKEA (By Telegraph—From “Childers.”) BULLS, To-day. The Rangitikei Racing Club’s meeting opened in perfect weather and a cloudless sky. The. large attendance includes many Taranaki patrons. The track is in first-class order and the going is' firm but not hard. Results:—

TRIAL PLATE. Of £6O. Six furlongs. 2 Leprechaun, 8.0 (P. Atkins) 1 4 Hunting Scene, 8.0 (H. Young) i —2 3-Chief Lady, S.O (S. Anderson) 3 Also started: Bazaine, Kaola, Linoleum, Merlyn,' Miss Pango, Muggins, Nova Scotia, Terry, Trimden, Tudor 8.7. Won by two lengths; one length. Time, 1.16 2-5. After considerable delay at the start, the field got away well. Hunting Scene and Bazaine were first out, but after a furlong Leprechaun ran through to join Bazaine in the lead from Merlyn, Hunting Scene and Chief Lady. Turning into the straight, Leprechaun assumed command from Bazaine, Chief Lady and Hunting Scene. Nothing had a chance with Leprechaun, '“wlio won by two length 3>om Hunting Scene, with Chief Lady a length further back. Bazaine was four i and Kaola, Tudor and Merlyn next. Leprechaun won impressively, and he is a promising sort. Hunting Scene and Chief Lady ran a solid race, while Kaola finished well.

SANDON HIGHWEIGHT HANDICAP. Of £75. One mile and a distance.

Very confidently ridden by Burgess, the favourite, Bold Jim, won well after seeming to be in a hopeless position three furlongs from home. Eka Tere and Royal Record were the early leaders from Otaki, w r ho dropped out down tho back stretch. Tranquility and Headland then moved up, following Eka Tere and Royal Record into the straight, who,.- Bold Jim put in a fast run on the rails, getting a clear passage to win by two lengths from Bacchus Marsh, who was a head in front of Royal Record, with Eka Tere a close fourth. Tranquility and Headland were next.

OHAKEA HACK HANDICAP. Of £65. Six furlongs. S Dick Whittington, 7'.2 (W. N. Taylor) I 4 Note Issue, 7.11 (S. Anderson) 2 1 Secrecy, 8.6 (P. Atkins) - 3 Also started Arena 9.3, Collodian 8.6, Abbey Feale 7.12, Lord Moutoa 7.6, Koreroa, Ev T en Money 7.0. Won by two lengths; half a length. Time, 1.14 4-5.

Carrying almost a stone over-weight, Dick Whittington scored a surprise win, paying over a quarter of a icentury. Abbey Feale and Dick. Whittington were first out but Note Issue immediately took charge. With half the distance covered Note Issue was a couple of lengths clear of Dick Whittington, Abbey Feale and Secrecy. Entering the straight Note Issue was joined by Dick Whittington who came away to win by a couple of lengths from Note Issue ,with Secrecy half a length away, third. Abbey Feale was fourth and Arena and Lord Moutoa next. Dick Whittington won handsomely, running his best race for a long time. Note Issue ran his usual consistent, race. Secrecy and Abbey Feale both had 1 every chance.
