PLUNKET GARDEN PARTY

OPENING OF CAMPAIGN. Ideal weather favoured the garden party hold at Mrs Collins’ residence, South Road, Hawera, to-day, on behalf of the “sports candidate” in the Plunket Baby Carnival. The beautiful grounds were looking their best and provided an ideal setting for the entertainment of tne guests. Competitions were held for putting, tennis, croquet and deck tennis, and sweets and cake stalls provided attractive stocks with which to tempt the buyer.

The Mayor of Hawera (Mr. J. E. Campbell) * was introduced by Mrs. Winks, president of the Plunket Society ,and declared the garden party open. He praised the work of tho society and commended the carnival now in progress and to extend over the next three weeks, to the favour of the public. The sum of £3OO was the aim of the society, this .sum being required to enable the work, which included the maintenance of a nurse and rooms, to be continued as effectively in the future as it had been in the past. _ There was a good attendance of visitors throughout ilie afternoon and brisk business was done by stall-hold-ers and those in charge of competitions.
