DEVELOPMENT IN BRITAIN. £2OB A MINUTE IN PREMIUMS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) (By Air Mail.) LONDON, Jan. 9. A tremendous development in insurance is taking place in Britain. Here arc some of the astonishing facts. llie total invested funds of the life iiwufancc companies exceed £1,000,000,000. One-fiftli of tlic total population of Gieat Britain has either a life policy or an industrial life policy, About £340,000,000 is the amount of now money estimated to be assured during the last year in these two types of policy alone. That is, the amount of money insurance companies have staked themselves to pay out should claims be made on every new policy of the year. Policies assuring over £180,000,000 were taken out in life insurance last year. This is an increase of nearly £14.000.000 over four years ago. Insurance eompanies , paid out to policy holders £99 in claims for every minute of the day and night during the whole of last year. In return they netted more than £2OB a minute in premiums.
