CROQUET PLAYERS’ VISIT
MEMBERS OF ENGLISH TEAM. PROGRESS OF THE GAME, (By Teiegrapfc —Press Association.) AUCKLAND, To-day. Lientenant-Colonel Du Pre, chairman of the English Croquet Council, arrived from Sydney to-day with two other members of the English team, Messrs H. It. Poulter and E. L. WardPetley. ‘•'Croquet,”- t aid Lieut-Colonel Du Pre, is no longer a game of curate* and crinolines, but a highly scientific game. In England, many men play, and of the first hundred players, 80 are men. It is exclusively amateur, and is a player’s game.” The English team will play in the New Zealand championships beginning at Auckland next Thursday. The New Zealand team which competed in matches in Melbourne, also returned to-day.
