ELTHAM ACTIVITIES

SWIMMING CLUB MEETING. The fortnightly meeting of the Eltham Swimming Club was held on Wednesday, Dr. D. H. Saunders presiding over the following members of the committee, Messrs A. Ware, C. Carncross, E. Bunn, A. J. Bennett, L. Haycock, E. ,Urry and G. M. Kib'oell (secretary), Mrs. R. S. Allen, Miss I . Carncross and Miss E. Rowe. Apologies were received from Miss R. Townsend and’ Mr. E. Townsend. ’

A lengthy discussion took place regarding the Petrie trophy, for diving, and it was decided that it be competed Tor; as a championship event, on the night of the club’s championships. It was also decided to- have a special trophy for handicap diving next season, the handicaps to be declared at the commencement of the season.

Mr. Allen reported on the performances of the Eltham members of the Taranaki team competing at the national championships. In returning thanks, on behalf of the two members, to the club for making the trip possible, Mrs Allen said that no doubt the experience gained by all was decidedly beneficial, and it would be a wise plan for the club to conserve funds in order that they might assist swimmers at future championships. Mrs .Allen also considered that coaching given by Mr. M. Champion, of Auckland, and Mr. W. Hassan, New Zealand champion diver, was of great value to Miss V. Carncross and Mr,. F. Maslin, and that letters of appreciation be sent to these two gentlemen. PERSONAL. Mrs. F. Cave, who lias been an illmate of the Hawera Hospital, has returned to Eltham. Mr. W. P. Bootten 3 who judged the milking Shorthorns at the Auckland show, has returned to Rawhitiroa.' Miss Wanklyn was hostess at bridge on Monday evening. At the district convention. of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union held at Stratford on Wednesday, Mrs. G. Tarrant, of Ngaere, was appointed secretary. Mr. A. J. Craig, manager of the Eltham branch of the Bank of Australia, is on annual leave, and will leave foil Auckland in a few days. I Miss Norben Fake has received word that she has been successful in passing the theoretical examination forL.T.C.L. Mrs. L. Quin has returned from New Plymouth, where she was .spending a holiday. Mr. Russell Carson, of Pnlinerstc! North; is on a visit to his parents. Mr. and Mrs. S. E. Carson. Mrs Sehvyn G. Cooper, of Morrinsville, is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A, A. Stewart. Mrs. Bromley, who has been the guest of Mrs. 0. Morrison, Daliel Road, has returned to Eltham. Mrs. A. McWilliam was hostess at an enjoyable afternoon, in honour of Mrs. Guy Cooper. Miss R. Harris, of Paten, is tlir guest of Miss T. Gibson.
