PATEA WELL BEATEN W. BARKER NOT OUT WITH 62 LITTLE INTEREST IN MATCH There was little interest to spectators in the match in which Old Boys, with two wickets down for 105, defeated Patea (88). Practically the only redeeming features were a solid innings of 62 not out by W. Barker, who scored over half of Old Boys total, and the bowling of R. Thrush. Old Boys were without the services of several of their usual players, thd most notable absentee being H. Barker, who is in Wellington for the Town v. Country match, Patea made first use of the wicket, and with four wickets down for 24 •did not look in a promising position. Jones (31), Zimmerman (12) and “Mr Extras” saved the side from a record low score, but the remaining b&tsmen did next to nothing. Thrush secured a harvest, his five wickets costing him five runs apiece. Old Boys scoring was' not enterprising for the greater part of the innings. Duke (IS) and Barker were associated in a partnership which added 36 runs. Barker was then partnered with Sturrock (11 not out). These two certainly brightened the scoring a little to take
