LINKS IN GOOD ORDER ARRANGEMENTS TOR SEASON MEMBERS’ ANNUAL MEETING

The annual meeting of the Waverley Golf Club was held on Thursday evening • when the following members were present: Mesdames G. Lupton, D. Lupton, Handley, Currie, Wallace, Dallison; Misses Gray, Wallis and Train; Messrs W. Muir, S. Aiken, FI. C. Dallison, D. Craig, F. R. Jeffery, I. Parsons, J. H. Cowdell,! F. Train, J. Pepper, J. C. Gray F. Johnston, J. Peterson, G. Watkins, N. Bromiley, N. Parsons and J. J. Johnston. Mr W.- -Muir presided. The annual report stated that the season under review had in some respects been a disappointing one. For the early part of the season members had not shown the same keenness and enthusiasm as in other years and it was difficult to. arrange the usual Saturday competition. The usual green difficulties still existed, but the grub was not so troublesome as in the previous year. .At the close or the season the cemetery green was dug up and resown with brown top and chewing fescue, hut unfortunately owing to the extreme dry weather the vegrassing was a failure. The green committee was now having this green resout? l - I '. Most likely the incoming committee would have to choose a new cemetery green for the coming season. At the present time the links were in splendid order and it would take very little work to put the green in good playing order for the commencement of the coming season. The membership stood at 31 men and 52 ladies, while the previous year the figures were 38 men and 42 ladies. During, the past season the club had the services of Mr McMillan as professional and his services were well patronised, especially among the new members.

CLUB' COMPETITIONS The usual infer-club matches with Patea, Wanganui, Seafield, and itawera Clubs were played, while club fixtures were keenly fought and some very close games resulted, lhe men s senior championship was again won by Mr lan Parsons with Mr D. Craig as runner-up. The junior championship was won by Mr J. Peterson with Mr P. Bremer as runner-up, while the Cave Cup was won by Mr P. Bremer with Mr W. Berridge as runner-up. The ladies’ senior championship was won by Miss Wallis with Mrs D. Lupton as runner-up. The junior championship was won by Mrs Casey with Miss JST. Mathieson as runner-up. The Wicks Cup was won by Miss TV allis.

The annual ball was again an outstanding success, and the thanks of the club were due to the energetic comittee. A profit of some £23 was shown. The balance sheet showed a credit balance of £4*s lOs 6d witb which to start the season, but out of this the sum of £2O had been de-

posited in the Office savings bank as a ball reserve fund. The club wished to again place on record its indebtedness to Alessrs Bremer Bros, for the continued privilege of playing over their property. Thanks were also due to the lad.> members who had always been to the fore in entertaining visitors. To the donors of prizes and all others who worked for the good of the club, the committee was grateful and took the opportunity of saying “thank you. ‘The chairman, Mr W. Muir, intimated that owing to ill health he wished to relinquish the office of president.

ELECTION OF OFFICERS The following officials were appointed Patron, Mr P. Bremer; president, Mr J. J- Johnston; vice-pre-sidents, Messrs J. Pepper and lan Parsons; club, captain, Mr S. Aiken; vice-captain, Mr D. Craig; honoiaiy treasurer, Mr J. C. Gray; honorary secretarv, Mr J. H. Cowdell; committee, Messrs F. Train, E. C. Dallison, F. R. Jeffery, D. G. Thompson, N. Parsons; honorary auditor, Mr J. Currie ; postponement committee, the captain, vice-captain and secretary; handieapper, Mr F. R. Jeffery; ground committee, Mr F. R. Jegery. Subscriptions were fixed at the same rate as last year. ,

The following resignations were accepted with regret: Mrs R. P. Palmer, Misses Lupton, McGregor, Palmer and McMechin. Mr G. White was elected a member of the club. It was decided that the committee arrange a draw for partners one day each month. The fixing of the date as opening day was left in the hands of the committee.

The following were appointed a hall cominitte: Messrs Thompson, Craig, Cowdell and P. Christensen, with Miss Gray as secretary. A vote of thanks was accorded Messrs W. Muir and F. Johnston for their services as president and secretary of the. club. It was decided that the committee should consider extending the links to enable a twelve-hole course to be made in place, of the present ninehole course.
