Most people nowadays are tolerant of the shortcomings of their fellows, but a woman with a black dog tried tolerance too far the other day. She and the animal were elose to the paddling pool near the Napier Public Paths, when without warning or nice regard for the feelings of the youngsters in tile pool, she threw the dog in. to the astonishment and annoyance of several parents standing by. One of them reported the matter to the custodian .who admonished the woman. While a. large crowd of people were awaiting the arrival of the Duke of Gloucester last week at the Oainani Public Gardens, where the official wel- I oorne was tendered, an amusing incident happened in which a local body official was caused considerable embarrassment. The public and school children were watching the road along which the Royal party were to travel. .At the time appointed a car appeared moving slowly, and thinking the. sole occupant of the back seat to be the Duke the crowd began cheering and the children added their voices to the welcome, at the same time waving hundreds of flags. The gathering was highly amused when the official stepped from the car and walked to his place i on the dais, a very embarrassed man.
