SEVERE EARTHQUAKE

PROBABLE CENTRE IN TIBET. AREA OF SEISMIC ACTIVITY. (United rress association —By Electric Telegraph Copyright). CALCUTTA, Jiin. 4. A severe earthquake shock, with the e])icentral region probably in South Tibet about 200 miles north of Mount Everest, was recorded on Indian and Burmese seismographs at 7.22 a.m. yesterday. Scientists are of tlie opinion that the barren country of the central Tibetan plateau beyond the Himalayan ranges is rapidly becoming an area of seismic activity. ■Owing to recent heavy snowstorms communication between India and lemote parts of Tibet is impossible and probably it will bo weeks before authentic information is obtainable about the recent shocks which were the most severe recorded in India since the great Bihar earthquake a year ago.
