HAWERA TRACK NOTES

tITTLE WORK THIS MORNING HORSES FOR RANGITIKEI AROUSE GALLOPS WELL. (By “Childers.”) As most of the horses are resting after their strenuous week-end, there was very little fast work done at Hawera this morning. Two Rangitikei candidates, Arouse and Beau Star, were galloped, both sprinting on the plough. This track was dry and fast. Arouse (Cole) caused a big surprise by finishing half a length in front of Carfex (Vaughan) at the end of half a mile in the outstanding time of 48 4-ssec. It was a really brilliant effort on the part of the Grand Knight gelding and easily his best effort to date. This makes him out to be a cut above the average and a reproduction of similar speed on Saturday will find him troubling the opposition. The first two furlongs wore run in 24sec. dead. No rider has yet been engaged for him. Carfex also hit out boldly as the time clearly shows. He has stood up to his frecent hard racing in fine style. Beau .Star (Coyle), alone, traversed half a mile in 51 l-ssec., moving froely. As W. Grindlay had a previous en--1 gagement to ride No Humbug, Beau ! Star is as yet without a rider for Saturday. Benedictine was given strong pacework only, as he is suffering from a bruised heel. The injury is not serious, and he will be quite fit to race on .Saturday, when he will be ridden by W. McDowell.

Gold Gleam was also out doing easy exercise. However, he will not make the trip to Bulls. Others to be .given routine exercise were Careful, Exquisite, Ingenuity, Aga Khan, Diagano, Copey, Lowenberg, Lady Eka, Misfire, The Tiger, Golden Rod, Diacquenod gelding, Panloff, Colossus gelding and Acre colt.

G. Richards has recommissioned Golden Rod after a brief spell in the paddock. She now looks in good order and shows no signs of soreness. .
